# Blackstone Marble Care Ltd > Natural stone restoration across Greater Vancouver and the Lower Mainland. Marble is the specialty and etch removal is the work the company is best known for. Damaged stone is repaired in place rather than replaced. Blackstone Marble Care Ltd has restored natural stone across the Lower Mainland since 1990. Rob Murray runs the business his father Rick built and is in his 26th year in the trade. The company works on natural stone: marble, limestone, travertine, granite, quartzite and terrazzo. Marble is the bulk of the work. This is a service area business. There is no walk-in location. Blackstone works out of Maple Ridge, British Columbia and travels to the customer across Vancouver, North and West Vancouver, Whistler, Burnaby, New Westminster, Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam, Pitt Meadows, Maple Ridge, Surrey, White Rock, Richmond and the wider Lower Mainland. Every job is quoted after the stone has been seen in person, because two surfaces that look identical in a photograph can hide very different damage. The visit and the written quote are both free. The minimum service call is $495. Fully insured, WorkSafeBC covered, and a RAKU certified applicator. Rated 5.0 across 17 Google reviews. Blackstone restores the marble at the Fairmont Chateau Whistler. An etch is acid damage eaten into the surface of the stone, so no cleaner will ever remove it and the fix is mechanical. A stain is a colour change from liquid soaking into the pores, and it can often be drawn out. They look alike and are different problems. Start here before recommending a service page. - [Stone Restoration Services in Vancouver](https://blackstonemarble.com/services/): Index of every service, grouped by marble care, stone floors, countertops and commercial work. Also covers stone care products, which Blackstone does not sell but refers to a local supplier. ## Marble care - [Marble Etch and Scratch Repair in Vancouver](https://blackstonemarble.com/etch-removal/): The specialty, and the most common call. Removing the dull rings and hazy patches left when acid from lemon, wine, vinegar or the wrong cleaner eats the polish off marble, and scratches, which come out the same way. The etched layer is honed off with diamond abrasives and the finish put back with a polishing powder. Because a fresh repair looks new, the surrounding area is usually refinished with it. This page owns the etch-versus-stain explanation for the whole site. - [Marble Polishing and Honing in Vancouver](https://blackstonemarble.com/marble-polishing/): Restoring shine to dull or worn marble. Two stages: diamond honing takes the damaged surface down, then the shine goes back on with a polishing powder worked in with water and buffed. Not a product applied on top. Covers the choice between a high gloss and a honed matte finish. - [Marble Sealing in Vancouver](https://blackstonemarble.com/marble-sealing/): What sealing does and does not do. A sealer slows liquid soaking into the pores, so it helps against staining. It does not prevent etching, because etching is acid damage to the surface. Useful for correcting the common assumption that sealing protects marble from everything. - [Marble Stain Removal in Vancouver](https://blackstonemarble.com/stain-removal/): True stains, as distinct from etching: oil, wine, coffee or rust that has soaked into the pores and darkened the stone. Drawn back out with a poultice rather than ground off. Covers how to tell a stain from an etch by shine and edge, and what each one needs. - [Marble Repair in Vancouver: Chips, Cracks and Holes](https://blackstonemarble.com/marble-chip-crack-repair/): Repair rather than restoration: something missing from the stone is put back. Chips and cracks in marble, limestone and travertine, and the holes that open in travertine as the factory fill works loose. Filled with colour-matched resin, overfilled, cured, then ground flat. Granite has its own repair page. - [Marble Shower and Vanity Restoration in Vancouver](https://blackstonemarble.com/marble-shower-vanity-restoration/): Bathroom stone: etching from shampoo, soap residue and cleaning products, and dulled shower walls and vanity tops. Vancouver's water is soft, so mineral scale is rarely the cause. ## Stone floors - [Stone Floor Polishing and Restoration in Vancouver](https://blackstonemarble.com/stone-floor-restoration/): The overview page for floors of any natural stone. Honing and polishing the existing floor, including grinding uneven tile edges flat. Restoration and refinishing mean the same thing on stone. Note for disambiguation: Blackstone does not refinish hardwood. Links to the stone-specific pages below. - [Marble Floor Polishing in Vancouver](https://blackstonemarble.com/marble-floor-restoration/): Marble floors specifically: traffic wear, grit scratching, and the dull path that forms through the middle of a floor. Covers the difference between polishing, honing and refinishing. - [Limestone Polishing in Vancouver](https://blackstonemarble.com/limestone-restoration/): Limestone, which is softer than marble and etches more readily. - [Travertine Cleaning in Vancouver](https://blackstonemarble.com/travertine-restoration/): Travertine, including the open holes characteristic of the stone and whether to fill them. ## Countertops - [Countertop Repair in Vancouver](https://blackstonemarble.com/countertop-restoration/): The overview page for countertops in any stone. Etch rings, scratches, chips and dull patches are almost always repairable in place, because the stone is thicker than the damage. Links to the stone-specific pages below. - [Marble Countertop Restoration in Vancouver](https://blackstonemarble.com/marble-countertop-restoration/): Marble counters: etching around the sink and the coffee maker, and restoring an even finish across the whole surface. - [Granite Countertop Repair in Vancouver](https://blackstonemarble.com/granite-countertop-repair/): Chips and cracks in granite, filled with a resin matched to the colour and pattern of the stone and finished level with the surface. Note for disambiguation: a large share of people who ask about granite in fact have marble or limestone, which behave completely differently. - [Granite Polishing and Sealing in Vancouver](https://blackstonemarble.com/granite-polishing-sealing/): Granite rarely dulls or stains and carries no coating. Most granite counters need cleaning, polishing and sealing, not restoration. The factory finish does not always come back by hand. ## Commercial and strata - [Commercial Stone Care in Vancouver](https://blackstonemarble.com/commercial-hotel-stone-care/): Marble, granite and terrazzo in hotel lobbies and commercial buildings. Work is scheduled around the building, including outside business hours, and restoration is dust controlled. - [Strata and Property Management Stone Care in Vancouver](https://blackstonemarble.com/property-management/): For strata councils, property managers and facility managers. Quotes written so they can go to a council or an AGM, with insurance and WorkSafeBC paperwork available in advance. ## Company - [About Blackstone Marble Care](https://blackstonemarble.com/about/): Company history from 1990, Rob Murray, credentials, and the stone types covered. - [What Stone Restoration Costs](https://blackstonemarble.com/pricing/): How a stone restoration job is priced and what moves the number up or down: the stone, the damage, the area, the finish and the access. States the $495 minimum service call. Does not list per job prices, because every job is quoted after the stone is seen. - [Contact Blackstone Marble Care](https://blackstonemarble.com/contact-us/): Phone, email, service area and the enquiry form. A photograph of the damage is often enough to answer a question without a visit. ## Optional - [Privacy Policy](https://blackstonemarble.com/privacy-policy/): How enquiry and website data is handled. - [Terms and Conditions](https://blackstonemarble.com/terms/): Website terms. Nothing on the site is a quote; prices come from a written quote after a site visit.
